The Black Beach Meditation

Jason // July 24 // 48 Comments

Rising early, I was led down to the beach by a huge Highland bull who was in no hurry at all. The day dawned grey and overcast giving the incoming tide a feel of bluing steel. This beach is one of my favourites and I'll be returning later in the morning as the tide recedes to catch the patterns left in the black, silver and gold sands.

I've made a ten minute wave meditation for you too, for when you have a few minutes to spare and want to 'immerse' in the roll and roil of these gentle waves. It's 4K so do try to watch it full screen.

  • Thank you so much for this! Beautiful scenery. The meditation video is very relaxing and makes you feel that you’re standing on the shore. Loved the poem too ..well read

    • You are most welcome Sue, thank you for your comment. I’m doing my best to make it feel as if I have all your company.

  • Thank you Jason, just what I needed this morning. It helped me access my much needed tears and the calm after. With gratitude Veronika

  • Wow, amazing meditation Jason, thank you. I love the sound of the waves and to watch it to like been there. So very grateful to watch your experiences as I am recovering from a operation and not getting out, so this is absolutely perfect, have a great day exploring 😀

  • What exquisite footage of the waves and the sound so calming. All of this is such a gift and I am very grateful. I hope you are able to fully immerse yourself too, in between you collecting all these beautiful images. 💚

  • Thank you so much Jason for the wonderful meditation…my favourite sound and visual focus, on rhythmic waves. What a variety of patterns, highlighted in the beautiful aerial shots, which were just magical. Thank you, thank you. So enjoyed. (and still playing in my mind and ears 20 minutes later!) I will revisit this many times, maybe each morning. A perfect start to the day.
Deep peace of the running wave to you….🪶

    • You are most welcome Lynne, I’m pleased it’s a good fit for you. Thank you for your kind comments. Deep peace of the flowing air to you…

  • Mesmerising watching the waves form and break, I was totally captivated by the feel of my own watery body’s ebb and flow and could feel myself moving in time with the waves. I could watch this every day. Thank you so much.

    • I could have stayed there all day, and then some. The waves on that beach have a different sound to other beaches I know.

  • Beautiful Jason, I loved the sound of the waves, the intensity building. Loved the aerial shots too, fantastic visual. I felt a sense of deep peace and release. I will use this many times, visualising myself sitting in that beautiful space, peace, tranquility, love, beauty and majesty. Thank you. May those beautiful islands continue to bless you and your work. X

  • Thank you for the lovely meditation. It took me back to the beach I was on yesterday in Kintyre. I also enjoyed your poetic pause although I will need to read it again to fully understand it. I relate to the Skylark’ s message to speak well.

  • What a captivating, mesmerising and absorbing meditation, thank you so much for sharing. I know this will become a much played video for me. ❤️

  • Gorgeous. Just what I needed. There is something calming and mysterious about the repetitive motion of the waves, so constant, constantly doing the same thing but never the same way. You captured that beautifully particularly in the aerial painting-like footage.

    • Thank you Sister Patience, that particular beach has a particular siren call for me. Maybe there’s mermaids! The waves have an unearthly echo and the sound of them breaking seems to travel through the ground and into me. I keep returning again and again. Spending time totally alone there is quite magical.

  • Mesmerisingly beautiful – I could smell the sea , feel the breeze and the cold water on my toes – it was like being there. I love Mull so much . Thank you for taking me with you on this journey – it is a great privilege.

  • Jason I am captivated by this stunning black beach meditation so calming and mindful. I am unable to get around much and live in the midlands so I rarely experience the sight and sound of waves. Thank you for making this film.

    • Thank you for your kind words Margaret. I’m planning to make many more purely meditative short films of nature over the coming months. Watch this space…

  • Just catching up, been out all day. Thanks for the wonderful meditation, going to listen to it before bedtime 🙏

    • Thank you for this Jennifer. I hope you enjoy it. I originally planned just one email a day but I get too excited and cannot help but share what I’ve found. 🙂

  • Thankyou Jason. I found the meditation really powerful and hypnotic. The tide pushing and pulling simultaneously and the crashing waves stopped my mind in it’s tracks. That place is full of raw energy.

    • It truly is hypnotic. I could stand there all day watching the ebb and flow. And you are so right, that beach has a particular brand of raw energy that I’ve not found elsewhere.

    • Pam, so often after I create these films I put them away. However I’ve just properly watched this filmic meditation and was likewise transported. The sea is so powerful and visceral isn’t it. Thank you for your comment.

  • Loving all these videos so much Jason thank you! You’re really capturing how Mull looks and feels, and the meditation was wonderful!

  • It looks so peaceful, I love the black and white beach photos, thank you for sharing and I’ve just drifted off to the meditation, I find the sound of the sea so hypnotic .

  • How beautiful – an exquisite dark canvas and the balm of the ocean, the pull and the flow, erasing all the chatter and troubles of our minds! Thank you, so soothing

  • Thank you Jason! I’m late coming to this feast – as you have guessed, life is deep and slow at the moment for me – and I really enjoyed it! I honour your skill and your (Heron-facing) stilness in envisioning this meditation, and sharing the wavebreak with us from a variety of poetic and visual perspectives. I heard Whale-song in there somehow, also!

  • Catching up with your filming in Mull and taking time out for some nature connection today. Loving the films, poetry and this meditation is just what is needed after a busy and difficult week. I think I will often revisit the meditation film the sound of the waves has helped my mind slow right down. Looking forward to a trip to Scotland later this year. Beautiful! Thank you 🙏

  • Thank you Jason for all the wonderful revelations of nature that you bring with your films. I feel refreshed, returned for a while to the nurture, memories and inspirations that she offers. These stay with me in my pastoral times with people and infuse the energy gifted of our meetings. There I feel a continuation of our own human nature with the wild life shine that visits your camera.

    • Thank you for sharing your thoughts here Arthur. I’m pleased that my contribution makes a difference and look forward to many more shared encounters with beautiful nature.
