A Poetic Pause in the Celtic Rainforest

Jason // September 14 // 30 Comments

I've now left Cwm Idwal and arrived at Coed Felenrhyd as the light begins to fade. First things first, I had a walk around the perimeter of the rainforest to say my hellos and prepare for my filming.

This is my first visit to this land so I did my usual and offered a poem to the place, dressed my best. Here I share a poem for you, Faun by Sylvia Plath, and then a somewhat risque one for the river, Low Water by Ted Hughes.

  • I love your poems,so fitting the landscape/ forest around you! You looked like a faun and a suitor, an interesting combination 😊 . Courting and being respectful in this ancient woodland, to the sound of silver bells from the rivers …. thank you Jason

  • How lovely, to court the land in your best clothes. So obvious when you think about. I’ll do that when I introduce myself to a new landscape whenever I’m able. (The landscapes that know me well are used to me being in my scruffs!)

  • I am very much looking forward to your journey through the rainforest. Ever since reading Guy Shrubsole and his passion for our remaing rainforest fragments I have had a trip to one on my to do list.

  • Thanks so much for this share Jason, wonderful poems and really resonating with the courting of the land 🙏✨🙏 grateful as always 🙏 🙂

  • So dapper Jason…acknowledging the special place with respect and sensitivity. Ted’s poem was especially fitting! You have brought yet another dimension to consider, in courting the land. Thank you. 🪶

  • Jason Smalley – well look at you! (Starlings wolf whistling jajaja) Absolutely brilliant Jason, loving the new look, showing the land the best of you, honouring her – fabulous idea – I love it! Love how Ted Hughes honours Her too. mmmmm food for thought ….. thank you for showing us yet another dimension … Love the Faun perfect in those woodlands. Have a fabulous couple of days, the magic is with you and all around you – weave your weft kind sir! May she honour you with her beauty and mystery – well deserved – the film for Autumn Equinox will be yet another blockbuster – can’t wait … Have fun! Fabulous bolders, landscape too whatever the weather.

  • Hi Jason,
What a difference in energy. The rough and impressive boulders, thrown around by a giant and now the sweet soft one of the celtic rainforest. I liked the erotic poem about the river. So fitting to her beauty.

  • Loved the Ted Hughes poem, listening with my eyes closed and imaging the lady . Beautiful. I also loved the boulders, very earthy and magical. I do hope the weather behaves somewhat for you 🌻

  • Love that hat n waistcoat Jason. Right I’m in my dapper green suede jacket nice boots and dad’s beautiful classic trilby! Going to chat to trees and birds on the canal ! I’m sure they’ll appreciate it 😊

    • Thank you Anita. Nicola and I often watch old films and remark at how very stylish everyone was. In my small way I’m trying to embrace that. Not easy for this Lancashire guy! I can picture you heading out looking every inch the stylish nature lover.

  • Oh Jason, this was just wonderful! I sooo love your special outfit, fabulous. The cap is super. The place is magical, and that Ted Hughes poem perfect for it. This has really lifted my flagging spirits today, bless you 🙏💚
